Standard 1
Scientific and Theoretical Knowledge
Element: 1.3 Describe and apply motor development theory and principles related to skillful movement, physical activity, and fitness.
Artifact: Motor Development Lab 2
Date: Fall 2011
Reflection:
Motor Development lab 2 was to observe the motor skills of students at St. Mary’s Elementary School. This artifact meets standard 1, to describe and apply motor development theories and principles because my task was to observe and then describe the motor skill of an elementary boy and an elementary girl while they performed a run, a gallop, and a hop. The results of their performance helped me to recognize and critique their motor movement. I then applied the principles to determine the skill level of each child. This artifact is important to my development as a physical education teacher because I was able to describe and apply theory and principles related to skillful loco motor movements, such as the run, gallop, and hop. It is important that the educator is able to break down, demonstrate and analyze the elements of each skill movement. Since I have the ability to do this, it will allow me to give more specific feedback to my students and hopefully help children improve on each motor skill.
